John Rayment (b. ca. 1636; d. 1668). Ropemaker.
Resident in 1658 in Ratcliff in the parish of Stepney.
The will of John Rayment, ropemaker of Stepney, was proved on December 21st 1668.[1][2] The will was made on December 14th 1668, "being sicke and weake in bodie". The will identifes two very loving friends, John Tylor, sailmaker, and Thomas Wyuth, gentleman. Katherine Rayment, his mother is also named, but no wife or children. The residue of the will is left to John Clay of Mile End, gentleman, who is made sole executor.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Twenty-two year old John Rayment deposed on April 27th 1658 in the High Court of Admiralty.[3] He was examined on a libel on behalf of the ropemaker Edward Bartlet in the cause of "Edward Bartlet against the ship called the Edward of London whereof Richard Stevens was master and against Richard Rooke and Company interveyning for their interest".[4]
