William Rickes (b. ca. 1617; d. ?). No occupation specified by the notary.
Described as a Cook on the Gilbert on a voyage to Barbados in 1656.
Resided in 1657 in Shadwell.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Forty year old William Rickes deposed on October 6th 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty.[1] He was examined on XX in "Upon an articulate allegation given in and admitted on the behalfe of the sayd John Cobb, Mathew Jennings and others the parties agents. John Cobb, Mathew Jennings and others mariners of the said shipp the Gilbert (whereof William Croford is Master) against the sayd shipand against Gilbert Keate, Jonathan Keate and Company".[2]
William Rickes stated that he was cook of the ship the Gilbert on a voyage to Barbados and knew almost all the mariners listed in the Court schedule. He asserted that all the men "aswell the outward as inward bound voyage did doe and performe their severall duties and services in the sayd shipp, as faithfully and laboriously as men could possibly doe or performe".[3]
