Transcription

To the second article he saith that the arlate Mr Richard
Middleton was in the moneths arlate videlicet June, July, August,
and untill the 18th ofSeptember 1654 (on which day (as he
taketh it) the deponent) Consull for the English Nation in the
Morea, by the appointment of the Turkey Company, and
that the arlate Mr Roger Middleton was in the said
monthes and before and at and after his the said Richard Middletons
death Vice Consull of the said place; Of this deponents certaine
knowledge, who hath seene the Commissions for his being
Consull of the Morea graunted aswell by the Turkey Company
as alsoe by the arlate Sir Thomas Bendish the Embassador
there, and for that he this deponent was present when the said
Consull did constitute and marke the arlate Roger Middleton
his Vice Consull, And further he cannot depose.

To the third article he deposeth and saith That he this deponent
was at Petras arlate in the beginning of July 1654, when
the arlate Roger Middleton did by the order of the Consull
and according to the appointment and direction of the sayd
John Tayler and Company goe from Petras unto [?Gastom] in the Morea where
the Bashaw then resided, and that the said Roger Middleton
meeting with the said Bashaw there or thereabouts they did
strike up a bargaine for the buying of all the Currance of
Nathalagoe, Vesticha, Lepanto and Petras for the use and
Accompt of the said Tayler and Company, The premisses he
knoweth for that he was present when the sayd Consull did
subscribe unto a writing purporting the said bargaine ofbuying
all the Currance of theise severall places of what
condition soever they showld be of, for the proper use and
account of the sayd John Tayler and Company, and for that
he this deponent with his owne hands payd many summs of
money for presents, dutys and in part of payment of the
sayd Currance, In all about 1400 Dollars, And further

To the fourth article he deposeth and saith That the Country
people had (without doubt) notice given them by the sayd
Bashaw that he had bargained for and sold all their
Currance for that his servants did helpe the Agents and servants
of the producents in the busines, and that the said Country people
did brring 200 horse loads in a day of the sayd Currance to the
water side for the said producents account, And he saith that
all the Currance of Nathalagoe and Vesticha were delivered
unto the Agents of the said producents and laden aboard the
Morea Merchant arlate for their Account, And that alsoe
the greatest part of the Petras and Lepanto Currance were
according and in pursuance of the said bargaine received by
the said producents Agents, and that the remainder of the
sayd Petras Currants was calculated by this deponent and the
remainder of the Lepanto Currance about 12 thousand, All
which they were to take at the rate of 2 Dollars and an
halfe per Sacke one with another good or bad though there
was not roome in the said shipp for the receiving them, (for
