The sixtedenth day of November 1655 [CENTRE HEADING]

Examined upon the sayd libell

Rp. 4

Thomas Muffett of Wapping in the parish of Whitechappell a
Ship Chandler by trade aged 22 yeares or thereabouts a wittnes
sworne and examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./

To the first second and third articles of the sayd libell hee saith that one Mr
fferne (who (as hee sayd) was husband for the Master and Owners of the shipp the Minories
arlate and by them imployed to buy for the use of the sayd shipp such things as shee
stood neede of) did within the tyme in the second article of the sayd libell mentioned
bespeake of this deponents Master the arlate Valentine Esling a Shipp Chandler
certaine goods for the sayd shipp Minories use, as
Match, musketts, swords, amnd other ammunition, amounting to the value of
sixe pounds thirteene shillings and sixe pence sterling, which goods were
within the tyme aforesayd carried on board the sayd shipp and there delivered
to the Company of the sayd shipp for her use, who receaved them for the sayd shipps use, the
premisses hee deposeth being then servant to the sayd Elsing and present
when the sayd goods were soe bespoken, and togeather with his contest
William White helpeing to carrie and deliver the sayd goods on board the
sayd shipp Minories to her company, who receaved them of this deponent and
the sayd White for the use of the sayd shipp, and saith hee well knoweth that the
goods soe delivered at the tyme of their delivery were well worth the sayd
summe of sixe pounds thirteene and sixe pence, and that the like quantitie of the like
goods were usually then sold dor soe much at least, And further to these articles
hee cannot depose, saveing hee saith hee beleeveth the sayd shipp stood neede
of the sayd goods for her defence , and could not well have gone her intended
voyage without them./

To the 4th hee saith that hee this deponent by Command of his sayd Master
Valentine Elsing did since the delivery of the sayd goods on board the sayd
shipp twice demannd of the sayd fferne the summe of 6 li - 13 s - 6 d for the sayd
goods who promised to pay the same, but hath not yet paid it or any
part thereof (as this deponent beleeveth) for that hee findeth the same standing
still in his Masters book as unpaid. And further referring him
selfe to the Registrie of this Court hee cannot depose/

To the 5th hee saith hee beleeveth the sayd Elsing is damnified by the want
of his money for the sayd goods in the imployement hee might have made thereof,
but to what value hee knoweth not, And further hee cannot depose/

To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true./
