deponent delivered to the said Mr hiscocks his Clarke to be entred, And
this deponent by reason of the present Controversy betweent the said
hiscocks and Wood about the said goods beleeveth the same are as
yet unpaid for and that the producent is damnified by such default
of payment but how much hee cannot conjecture And further
referring himselfe to the Acts and proceedings of this Court, and
beleeving the said Wood to be an Englishman and consequently subject
to the Jurisdiction thereof hee saith hee cannot otherwise depose:/

Herman Gooris of London Merchant aged 26
yeares or thereabouts a Wittnesse sworne as in the Acts of Court and
examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth, That
hee this rendent hath knowne the interrate John kein Master of
the shipp the hare in the field for about 7 weekes last past and
first knew him upon the taking in of his present lading, seeing him first at
Rouen and shortly after at haver de Grace where his said shipp lay
and was then and there knowne by the name of the hare in the field
and that shee belonged to Middleborough in Zeeland, where according to
common report her Owners were said to inhabit, but what name shee had
before, the names of her owners, by what authority the said kein was
constituted Master of her, who was Master of her besides or before the said
kein, or what Port or place hee the said kein first under
tooke the care or conduct of her, this examinate saith hee knoweth
nothing thereof. And further cannot depose./
To the second hee answereth and saith, That hee knoweth not when the
interrate John kein was last at Middleburgh, nor when hee came last
thence, neither doeth this rendent know of any of the persons interrate nor
ever knew any thing of their Countrey, birth or residence, nor what
interest or propriety they or any of them have or hath in the shipp or
goods in question.
To the third hee saith hee knoweth not when the said shipp came last
from Middleburgh neither did this rendent ever come thence in her
to any Port in ffrance, and saith hee this rendent came first aboard
her at haver de grace when shee lay there compleating her present
lading, and saith the said shipp staied at haver de Grace for about 5
or 6. weekes before her departure thence upon the voyage in question/
