peeces of eight per potacca for freight, amounted in the whole to
six thousand pounds sterling and upwards, and saith there were taken
alsoe in the said shipp two thousand eight hundred cararra hides belonging
to and laden for the accompt of the said Samuel Wilson and company
which were worth to have bin sold in any port of England or
ffrance foure thousand pounds sterling and upwards, more two
hundred eightie five potaccoes of varinas tobacco for the same accompt
worth tenn thousand pounds sterling and upwards; More a quantitie of
Elephants teeth, some tonnes of [?ljuXX] vitae, and salt, the quantitie
or bvalew whereof hee remembreth not having his bookes seized and
taken away by the said ffrench upon their taking the said shipp and lading.
More for the accompt of teh said Samuel Wilson and company a
box of Emmaralds and other Jewells, which cost three hundred pounds
sterling and upwards. The premisses hee deposeth being
merchant of the said shipp as aforesaid, and buying and lading the
said goods soe laden for the said Mr Wilson and company their accompt
and contracting for the freight of the foresaid Spanish goods. And
saith the losse of the said shipp tackle, and furniture fell upon the
said Mr Wilson and company all English men and marchants
and subiects of this Commonwealth, for that they detained her and
traded with her beyond the time limited by Charter partie made
with the English owners of whom they tooke her to freight, and
they have paid the said losse to the said owners accordingly. And
further hee deposeth that the said Samuel Wilson and company had
alsoe another shipp on the same designe and coast, called
the Joseph and jJames, John Shaw commannder, which (by reason
the Spaniards would suffer but one of the said shipps at pnce to come
into the said port of [?Guaira]) lay at a distance thence
attending to come in when the other should have bin dischardged thence;
and this deponent had procured her lading in a readinesse to put
aboard her when shee should soe come in, but upon and by meanes
of the said seizure by the ffrench teh Spaniards being vexed
at the losse they had suffered therein, not only refused to suffer
the said shipp the Jospeh and James to come in and receive the
said lading soe provided, but alsoe on shore seized severall goods
merchandizes and debts belonging to the said Samuel Wilson and company, by
which refusall of the said shiipp Joseph and James (which had long
attended and was forced at length to goe away emptie) to come in and
receive the said goods provided for her, and seizure of the said goods
merchandizes and detts ashore, the said Samuell Wilson and company
have suffered lose and damage to the valew of tenn thousand
pounds sterling and upwards. All which dammages and losses were
donne and caused by ffrench, subiects of the kinge of ffrance, which
hee knoweth for the reasons aforesaid.
