Biographical synthesis
Robert Marten (b. ca. 1608; d. ?). Mariner.
Foremastman of the ship the Mary Rose of XXXX (Master: Robert Marriot).
"The premisses hee deposeth seeing the same being a foremast man of and aboard the Mary Rose".
Resident in 1659 in Acton near Ipswich in the county of Suffolk.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Fifty-one year old Robert Marten deposed on December 1st 1659 in the High Court of Admiralty.[1] He was examined on an allegation on behalf of ffrancis Cole and others in the cause of "Nicholas Bradley Robert Marriot and others owners of the John of Ipswich against the Mary Rose and against ffrancis Cole and others".[2]
The case concened the coal ship the John of Ipswich coming foul of a second coal ship, the Mary Rose just after Michaelmas 1658 near Tinmouth haven.
