Biographical synthesis
Mark Bennet (b. ca. 1632; d. ?). Mariner.
Foremastman on the ship the Gilbert on voyage from Barbados to London in 1656.
Resident in 1657 in Greenwich in the county of Kent.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Twenty-five year old Mark Bennet deposed on October 6th 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of John Cobb, Mathew Jennings and others, mmariners of the ship the Gilbert in the case "John Cobb, Mathew Jennings and others mariners of the said shipp the Gilbert (whereof William Croford is master) against the sayd shipp and against Gilbert Keate, Jonathan Keate and Company".[1]
Mark Bennet stated that he "was shippt aboard the Gilbert arlate as a ffore=Mast man at the Barbadoes for her homeward voyage".[2]
