Twenty year old Joseph Southwood deposed on June 15th 1655 in the High Court of Admiralty.[1] He was examined on a libel on behalf of Henry Southwood, master of the ship the Angell Gabriel in the cause of "Henry Southwood master, and company: owners of the shipp the Angell Gabriell against Richard ffare and whomsoever els coming in by way of reconvention and complaint".
Joseph Southwood remarked that "being one of the sayd shipps company as aforesayd the sayd voyage did take notice as alsoe many others of the sayd shipps company did that the sayd Richard ffare through the whole voyage in question was soe negligent of his duty and unskillfull in the art of piloting a shipp to those parts to which the sayd voyage was made".[2]
