Richard Speareman (b.ca. 1618; d. ?). Ropemaker.
Resident in the parish of Saint Mary Magdalen Bermondsey in 1656.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Thirty-eight year old Richard Speareman deposed on August 23rd 1656 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on a libell on behalf of Lisle in the case of "Lisle against Stephens and Leigh".[1]
Speareman was witness to the signing and sealing of a bill of sale for a ship named the Jane on October 12th 1652. William Syndersby sold the vessel to a Mr Edwards, and a scrivener, Thomas Ashworth, made out the bill of sale, which Richard Speareman signed with his mark RS.[2]
Speareman further stated that carpentry work was carried out on the vessel as well as some smith's work, to repair the Jane.
