  • Insert immediately after the sentence or phrase you wish to annotate the following macro:<ref>This is the footnote text</ref>
  • Replace 'This is the footnote text' with the footnote you wish to add, using the format: first name, surname, title, (place of publication, date of publication), page or folio number
  • Save the page

For more information and advanced formatting, including how to add and format links within the footnote, see the Wikipedia help on footnotes. This uses the same markup formatting.

To the 7th hee saith saving his foregoeing deposition and answeres hee
cannot more cetainely depose./

To the 8th hee saith that at such tyme as the Exeter Merchant came
to the Mary and ffrancis (sic), her company could not then have anchored
her safe in any place but at the lower chayne at Lymehouse by reason
the tyde was spent and would carrie her noe further, and other parts
of the Thames were soe full of shipps at Anchor that
there was not roome for her to Anchor
by them without falling fowle ere her Anchor could take hold, And

To the 9th hee saith the Exeter Merchant did come on the

To the 10th hee saith that it is more usuall for shipps of any considerable burthen that come laden home,
when they come into the River of Thames (and the tyde soe fall out
that they cannot presently fasten to a chayne) to fasten to an other
shipp lying at a chayne, till the tyde bee soe lowe that they can
fasten to the chayne, rather then to goe to mooreings of their
owne, by reason it is more advantagious for them it being a
meanes to preserve their cables from many casualtyes they are
incident to when they lye at perticuler mooreings as alsoe for that there
is usually deepest water where the chaynes lye and therefore
most Commodious for shipps of great burthen to ride there And
further hee cannot depose./

To the 11th Interrogatorie hee saith hee beleeveth in case damage be done
to any shipp whatsoever through want of Judgment in the Master
thereof, hee is to make good the damage done and not his company
(as this rendent beleeveth) for that they ought to bee obedient to
his directions and in soe doeing doe but their dutie, And further
hee hee cannot answere./

To the 12th hee answereth negatively./

To 13th hee saith that the quarter of the Exeter marchant which was
broken downe as is predeposed, is repayred by the order of
