PROB 11/297/518 Will of Bence Johnson, Merchant of London (the younger) 19 April 1660

Editorial history

09/12/11, CSG: Created page & pasted partial trasncription

Abstract & context

Bence Johnson was a cousin of Captain Bence Parker, who predeceased him. Bence Parker's father, William Parker, had predeceased her, and she had remarried, to Captain William Maynard.

Bence Johnson was probably linked to Alexander Bence of Aldeburgh, through Alexander's daughter, Rose. Alexander Bence of Aldeburgh mentions in his will "?Rose Johuson my daughter the wife of Thomas Johnshon". Bence Johnson's father was dead by the time Bence made his will and is unnamed. Bence Johnson mentions in his will his Aunt, Rose Maynard, who was Bence Parker's mother, and who was presumably originally Rose Bence.

However, Bence Johnson' mother is named as the presumably remarried Elizabeth Jaggard. Bence Johnson also mentions an uncle, William Johnson, and a Kinsman Ewan Johnson. Property is mentioned in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, as well as farnham, Suffolk, which strengthens the link to Suffolk, where the Bence family had its origins and strong ties.
