Invited by yo:e kind Invitation when you were last at my M:t[2] [abbreviation for Master] S:r W:m Riders, I have beene bold to consigne to yo:r Wor:p by y:e Loyall Merch:t Cap:t Nicho:s Millett,[3] á Small Box, I am ashamed to say how little, but it is as far as my pres:t cash will [XXX] being indntid p [could be "up". It is not worth y:e diversion of y:e thoughts from yo:r more weightie negotiations, but if you please to Hono:r mee so farr as to give order for y:e disbursing of it in some comodity y:t may safely turne to Acco:t & retourne it by y:e same conveyance or other wise as you shall deeme meete; (for I leave it to yo:r Worp:s discretion w:thout limitation) I shall hold my selfe Infinitely Oblidged to you Good S:r pardon my presumption & if have offended, the least chock shall forever make mee your penetentiary, but if other wayes I shall bee proud of y:e hono:r & allways seeke opytunity to approve my selfe.

Samuell Heron


"Oct 21. [1665] Bethnal Green. 30. Sam. Heron to Sam. Pepys. An English ship has been stopped going out of Pillau. Complaints were made to the commander of the Castle, who affirms he has orders to stop all English ships, on account of the Brandenburg vessels lately arrested. Asks what to do in case Sir Wm. Rider’s ships be kept too late for the convoy. [Adm. Papers]"[4]

"Oct. 26 [1665] Bethnal Green (sic) [Item] 84. Sam. Heron to Sam. Pepys. Sends a list of ships supposed to be in the Sound, laden with hemp, pitch, and tar from Stockholm, on the King's account. [Adm. Paper.] Encloses,

[Item] 84. I List of six ships freighted by Sir Wm. Rider's company for Stockholm, and of nine for Dantzic and Riga, detained by order of the Duke of Brandenburg."[5]

"Dec. 19. [1665] Bethnal Green. 69. Sam. Heron to Sam. Pepys. Particulars of hemp, pitch, and tar just arrived on Sir Wm. Rider’s account. Asks to what stores they shall be sent [Adm. Papers]"[6]

"1665. Dec 27. London. 27. Sam. Heron to Sam. Pepys. Waits orders to be given at Chatham for the receipt of Sam. Parker’s hemp, instead of Wm. Horne’s, which is designed for Portsmouth. [Adm. Papers]"[7]

Sam Heron is still associated with the Rider name in 1706.

"2626. Jan 14. [YEAR? Probably 1707] Rider v. Baylie. – Petition and Appeal of William Rider , Esq. Priscilla Baylie, Petitioner’s sister [Daughter, I believe of Sir William Rider] , in 1706 exhibited her...[GOOGLE SNIPPET ENDS]..[NEW GOOGLE SNIPPET ON SAME PAGE]..particularly with regard to a sum of 503l. 16s., which she pretended had been lent to the Petitioner out of her money by her agent Samuel Heron as long ago as Sep. 1682-3, Petitioner put in his answer to the said Bill , to which the Plaintiff replied. The case was heard by William, Lord Cowper, the present Lord Chancellor, on or about 15 Nov. 1707, who..[GOOGLE SNIPPET ENDS]..[THE CASE APPEARS TO GO ONTO P. 347, WHER IT CONCLUDES] [NEW GOOGLE SNIPPET]..100 attendances; if it had not been for delay, it would not have been brought hither. They read several letters, accounts and depositions. Mr. Serjt. Pratt heard in reply for Rider. Ordered and adjudged that the Appeal be dismissed and the decree affirmed and twenty pounds costs. MS. There was a Samuel Heron who was Secretary to the African Company in 1690s
