I am informed y:e Shipp Charles Cap:t sam: Smith[1] Comander) y:t was lately intened by honourable Comp:a for y:e Coast of Coromandell is now by y:m consigned to yo:w in Suratt, w:ch in ptottassion [?] this lre to yo:w for I haveeing inclosed my ltr to yo:w & other ffriends in Suratt in my ltre : to M:r Jarsey[2] I must intreat yo:w to demand my Packett directed to M:r Jarsey, from

y:e pser of y:e Ship & open it w:ch yo:w will know by my seale if not by my hand writeing & having taken thence such lres : as are directed to yo:e selfe & other friends w:ch yo:w please to send M:r Jarsey & ffriends on y:e Coast such as concern y:m soe soon as aso:w can conveniently , also to o:e friends w:ch yo:w as directed now for such things as I intended to fornish M:r Jarsey w:ch yo:w may prexne by his lres & Invoyces w:ch pray prse & though they be of small value yett I shall intreat yo:w to take [guess – covered by worm hole] y:e trouble on yo:w of y:e disposing of y:m forme to y:e best Advantage by y:e pticulars yo:w will preine [?] my designe was more pleasure & M:r Jersey (who relyed on me) y:n for any great advantage I expected by it & if yo:w can concenniently make me a returne in ambergreese or Muske it will be very well come, but rather y:e former , if yo:w can conveniently if not good muske in y:e Gods will doe very well

I must thankefully acknowledge y:e rec:t of yo:e lre by y:e Affrican dated y:e 10:th 7:ber1666, but none overland as yet are come to my hand, I am sorie my lres to yo:w by y:e Constantinople miscarried but wonder not much at it sinceI have formerly experimented y:t y:e intersepting of lres is freequent passed by y:m at y:e fourt [?] now needs anyman wonder at y:t who knows y:t thet are arrived at soe unheard of aheith [?] of Impudence injurie as is not easilie to be Credited

The Comp:a are sensible of y:e daingers they have runn & I believe are now inclined to send only small shipps untill peace be concluded, in order to w:ch Atreatie is appoynted at breda, & o:e Commisioner are preparing to goe theither verie suddenly, I shall not enlarge in matter of news since there is little to advise & y:t little is bad w:ch discourages me from writing it, The little Dorcas about 70 tuns burthen form y:e bay bangala is lately taken by a Dutch Privateer

I have alsoe sent a small box of silk stockings for M:r Charles Probie[3] by y:e Pser w:ch good S:r receive for him & dispose of y:m as M:r Probie shall in ord:e for whose acco:tt, they are y:e pticulars of w:t intended

M:r Jearsey are specified a pt to w:ch I intreat yo:w ne reffered but in y:t I nvoice is not mentioned A Cheser (sic) Cheese & a box of dryed herbs Intended by my wife as a token to M:rs Jersey, but now I shall intreat yo:w to accept of y:m yo:e selfe, & shee shall God willing send her some other thing by y:e next opportunity, this Conveiance [?] is doubtfull soe y:t I forbare writing to most of my ffriends w:ch yo:w w:th pray excuse & having humbly psented my serviceable respects to yo:e Acceptance I obseqzously conclude
