1. (ánd at present ought to be) the owners and proprietors of the
2. shipp the Lyon and Providense and of her tackle and furniture and
3. for such commonly accounted, and saith that about thirteene monethes
4. since the said shipp was victualled and set out from this port aaon a
5. voyage to be made to Guiney, thense to the East Indies, and soe to
6. retourne to this port on a trading voyage, and that the said
7. Alderman William Thomson ˹and˺ Maurice Thomson tooke an hundred
8. and fiftie tonnes of the said shipp to freight for the said voyage, and
9. did in this port before such here proceeding lade and put on board her
10. in and upon their said tonnage a good quantitie of marchandizes consisting
11. in Silesia linnen, iron, knives, and other commodities, to be on the
12. coast of Guiney bartered away for gold, and the most part thereof
13. were bartered away accordingly upon such the said ships arivall on the
14. said coast, all which hee knoweth proceeding hense in the said shipp and
15. ariving on the said coast in her hee being Purser of her.
16. To the third árticle hee saith and deposeth that within the said time
17. after such arivall of the said shipp the said voyage at Cormantine
18. on the coast of Guiney the factors of the said Alderman william
19. Thomson and Maurice Thomson upon such barter as aforesaid got
20. and received aboard her to and for the use and account of the said Alderman
21. and Morrise Thomson ninetie one markes and some odd angles of
22. Guiney Gold, which hee knoweth because hee sawe the same, and afterwards
23. there was more gold received aboard for their account, but this deponent
24. did not take notise of the particular quantitie thereof. And saith
25. the said factors were in the quiet and peaseable possession of the
26. said gold aboard the said shipp to the use aforesaid of Alderman and
27. Morrise Thomson, on the high and open sea, and soe continued
28. till and unto the said shipps arivall at Cape lopez or Cape de
29. Lope Gonsalves, and untill the spXXXXX hereunder mentioned,
30. which gold hee saith was intended for the parts of East India,
31. there to be invested in goods of those parts for the same account, which
32. hee knoweth, being aboard, and ourser of the said shipp, and
33. taking notice of the premisses.
34. To the fourth article hee saith and deposeth that there was a
35. parcell of gold taken and received abaord the said shipp for the
36. said account of James Bridgeman, Thomas Preston and company
37. at Cormantine aforesaid, but the quantitie thereof hee did not
38. take notice of, the same being received by the Captain of the
39. shipp, who kept account thereof.
40. To the fifth hee saith that over and besides the gold aforesaid
41. the arlate Lionell Skinner had and received alsoe a parcell
42. of gold aboard the said shipp for account of him selfe and friends
43. which with the said gold of the said Bridgeman and company was alsoe
44. to be carried to the parts of East India, and there to be invested in
45. Merchandizes for this port.
