Twenty-five year old Thomas Chantrall deposed on January 7th 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty.<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.487v Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.487v]]</ref> He was examined on a libel in the case of "Richard Batson against Gosling".

Chantrall gave his occupation as cooper and stated that he went as cooper's mate on a whaling voyage in the ''Owners Adventure'' to Spitzbergen.
