Twenty year old Richard Hoare deposed on October 31st 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on interrogatories on behalf of "On the behalfe of John Broughton}

According top Richard Hoare, the ship the ''King David'' was seized by an Ostend man of war off Lewes "in the back side of Scotland" and taken as a prize to Grine in the King of Spain's dominion. The ship carried "hydes, pipe staves, slatts. and a quantity of gold, and silver", which had been laden at Carrick Vergas in Ireland.<ref>[[HCA 13/72 f.171v Annotate|HCA 13/72 f.171v]]</ref>
