Peter Aylward (b. ca. 1619; d. ?). Merchant.

Hired as purser and assistant to the cape merchant on a voyage to the Spanish West Indies.

Resident in 1659 in the parish of Saint Catherine Creechurch, London, in Leadenhall Street, near the parish church.<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.72v Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.72v]]</ref>

Aylward provided considerable detail on his residence in his first deposition in the High Court of Admiralty in February 1659. He stated that "is a subiect of this Commonwealth and hath lived tenn yeares and bin married and a house keeper seaven yeares in this citie, five yeeres whereof hee lived in three tunne alley neere Moregate and now liveth in Leadenhall streete over against Creechurch." He added that "and hath lived some time at Limehouse, but is an Irish man borne."<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.72v Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.72v]]</ref>

Forty year old Peter Aylward deposed on February 21st 1659 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined in the case of the "Lord Protector against the ''Hope''.<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.72r Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.72r]]</ref>

Aylward stated that he could understand both Spanish and Dutch as well as English..<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.72r Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.72r]]</ref>

Forty year old Peter Aylward deposed again on April 15th 1659 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation in the case of "Claime of ffernandez and others".<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.187r Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.187r]]</ref> The case related to the same facts as his earlier deposition.

Peter Aylward stated that he was familiar with John Lopez, who was to go on a voyage to the Spanish West Indies as cape merchant. He, Peter Aylward, was hired by John Page, one of the merchants involved, "in qualitie of purser and assistant to Mr Lopez in regard this deponent had the Spanish tongue perfect and soe was usefull for that negotiation".<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.187r Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.187r]]</ref>
