==Evidence from High Court of Admiralty==
Jonathan Bigland, a twenty-eight year old shipwright, deposed in the High Court of Admiralty on November 3rd 1657. He was examined on an allegation made on the behalf of Judith Dixford in the case "Judith Dixford against the hulke the ''Elizabeth''."<ref>[[HCA 13/72 f.180v Annotate|HCA 13/72 f.180v]]</ref>

The records of the High Court of Admiralty contain another shipwright with the surname Bigland. This is Edward Bigland, ''alt.'' Edwardus Bigland, who was deposed twice, Once on May 14th 1650 and the second time on April 11th 1656.

In the first deposition, Edward Bigland deposed in the case of "Major con Perkins". He gave his age as fifty-nine, his residence as the parish of Saint Olave in Southwark, and his occupation as shipwright ("Naupegus" in the Latin of the notary public who wrote down the deposition).<ref>[[HCA 13/63 f.204v Annotate|HCA 13/63 f.204v]]</ref>

In the second deposition. Edward Bigland deposed in the case of "John Mayor against a certayne lighter called the ''William and ffrancis'' whereof William Knight and company were owners and against the sayd William Knight and company comming in for their interest and against whatsoever persons et cetera". He ghave his age as sixty seaven and described himself as a shipwright of the parish of Saint Mary Magdalen in Southwark.<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.135r Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.135r]]</ref>
