It is just possible that the will of John Merry, "leatherseller of London", proven on December 2nd 1684, is for the subject of this biography, though the implied age of eighty four or eighty-five is at the very top end of plausible longevity.<ref>PROB 11/378/257 Will of John Merry, Leatherseller of London 02 December 1684</ref>
