James Sadler (b. ca.1620; d.?). Merchant.

Resident in Little Morefields in the parish of Saint Giles without Cripplegate in 1654.

Travelled from Barbados to Barbary Coast and Spain in late 1648 to assist with the sale of the cargo ogf the ship the ''Little George''.

==Evidence from High Court of Admiralty==
Thirty-four year old James Sadler deposed on November 11th 1654. He was examined on an allegation made on July 26th 1654 in "A businesse of examination of witnesses for the perpetuall remembrances of the matter touching the losse of the shipp the ''Constant'' promoted by Captaine John Cramp and others".<ref>[[HCA 13/70 f.10r Annotate|HCA 13/70 f.10r]]</ref>

Sadler testified that in February 1640 he was a witness to the signing and sealing of a bill of sale by Robert Hogge. Sadler and a further witness, Captain Robert Moulton, wrote their names on the back of the bill of sale.

There is a reference in the Acts of Court of the High Court of Admiralty dated March 19th 1656 to James Sadler being produced as a witnes in a separate case, that of "Bancocke against Harris and Chambers".<ref>[[HCA 3/46 f.539r Annotate|HCA 3/46 f.539r]]</ref>

The actual deposition of the then thirty-seven year old James Sadler took place on March 24th 1656. He is described simply as a merchant of London, but is clearly the same man from the earlier deposition.<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.41v Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.41v]]</ref> In this case Sadler states that he knows John Harris and Laurence Chambers, and that he had delivered them goods from the proceeds of their outward cargos on a voyage on the ship the ''Little George''. Moreover, Sadler had acted as a witness on behalf of the two men of the insufficiency of the ship. At Barbados, in October 1648, Sadler had been requested by the master of the ship and the freighters' factor to travel on the ship to the Barbary Coast and to Spain, to assist the master and the factor with the sale of the ship's cargo. The master of the ship had died en route for Barbary and had been replaced by the master's mate. Sadler testified to the changed roles on board ship and that the men fulfilling these roles well deserved specific wages.<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.41v Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.41v]]</ref>
