3. the Morning Starr, James Bowman commander}</margin>
4. James Bowman of London mariner, late
5. Commander of the shipp the Morning Starr of
6. London, aged 34 yeares or thereabouts sworne before
7. the right Worshipfull the Commissioners in the Portugall
8. businesse and exámined saith and deposeth as
9. followeth, videlicet.
10. That the said shipp the Morning Starr whereof this deponent was
11. Commander was seized by the authoritie and officers of the king of
12. Portugall at Lisbone on or about the 12th of June 1650, and this deponent
13. and company turned and imprisoned in the castle there, and utterly
14. deprived of the possession thereof; And that two dayes before the said
15. seizure this deponent paid his men ˹as part of˺ their wages the severall summes of
16. money mentioned and expressed in the schedule hereunto annexed
17. which hee saith were lost unto them and expended by their said imprisonment
18. and turning out of the shipp, and that they lost in clothes and Instruments
19. and in their adventures which they had aboard the other summes mentioned
20. in the said schedule, namely John CoXXXs this deponents mate received
21. in wages of this deponent and lost the and spent the same by the
22. said imprisonment fifteene pounds sterling, and in clothes and
23. Instruments fifteene pounds and adventure 25li sterling, and soe
24. all the rest of the persons mentioned in the said schedule, (who
25. hee saith were all mariners of this deponents companie in the said
26. shipp) suffered loss respectively in all theise as is expressed in
27. the said schedule, which schedule hee saith was and is true.

41. That the said shipp Morning starr whereof James Bowman was commander
42. was seized at Lisbone by the authoritie and officers of the kinge of
43. Portugall on or about the 12th of June 1650, and the said James
44. Bowman, and company turned out of her and imprisoned in and
45. under which imprisonment hee ˹the said Bowman˺ continued many monethes, and disbursed
46. severall summes of money for and towards the releife and supplie of
47. his said same company in their said imprisonment, And saith the said
