==Evidence from High Court of Admiralty==
Twenty-two year old Garrett Johnson deposed on October 12th 1653 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on interrogatories on behalfe of Hugh Ryly and company in the cause of "Hugh Ryly and company imployers of the shipp the ''Mary'' of London John Welch captaine agains the shipp the ''Sharke'' wherof Garrett Johnson is master".<ref>[[HCA 13/68 f.118r Annotate|HCA 13/68 f.118r]]</ref>

Garrett Johnson stated that he was skipper of the ship the ''Sharke'', which had been built at the cost of Marimus Tunison, her sole owner. The ship was said to be twenty years old. Johnson had taken the ship out on a fishing voyage with a crew of Hollanders and her lading consisted entirely for herrings, which she was taking back to her home port of Delfshaven.
