war betwixt this Commonwealth and the State of the united Provinces. And <br />
the same was and is Notorious, and as he beleiveth well knowne att Cadiz in<br />
Spayne and in fflanders and att Hamburgh and other places beyond the seas, and<br />
beleiveth the master and Company of the 'Golden Starr' could not probably be ignorant<br />
thereof, and formuch this deponent heard one of the Company of the 'Golden <br />
Starr' say videlicet that they had notice and well knew that there was warr betwixt<br />

and during the tyme she was chased haled and fought by the 'Advantage'<br />
frigott was sayling in her direct Course vpp the English Channel Eastward<br />

'Golden Starr' being vpon the English Seas neere the English shoare and<br />
sayling Eastward as aforesayd was haled by the &#91;Master crossed through&#93; Captain of the 'Advantage'<br />
frigot in the immediat service of this Commonwealth and wearing the Colors<br />
of this Commonwealth. And the said Captaine of the 'Advantage' required the Master<br />
and Company of the 'Golden Starr' in the name of the Parliament of England<br />
to submitt themselves to be visited and to send off their shipps boat for<br />
that purpose, being an usuall and accomstomed acknowledgement due vpon those<br />
Seas especially in tymes of warr to all shipps of this Commonwealth that<br />
are for the defence thereof sett forth to sea, and imployed by the Supreme<br />

the Crowne of Sweden merchant aged one and<br />
twenty yeares or thereabout a witnes sworne and<br />

To the first Article of the sayd allegation This deponent saith that in the monethes<br />
of May June and July last 1653 the arlate John Hawkes<br />
was and att present is the lawfull owner of twenty lasts of Rye and f&#91;our?&#93;<br />

the tyme aforesayd was and now is the lawfull owner of twenty lasts of <br />

which is in ordinary English weight six thousand pound weight. And<br />
the sayd Matthias Witt then was and now is the lawfull Owner of eleven<br />
lasts of Rye. And Thomas Eyke was and is lawfull Owner of five lasts<br />
of Wheate schedulat, And the sayd Hans Loer then was and now is the <br />
lawfull Owner of eight lasts of Rye. and Claes Yat or fflorez Yatt was then and is<br />
the Owner of six lasts of Barly, The Reason of this deponents Knowledge<br />
of the premisses was and is that he Knoweth well all the sayd persons and<br />
goods, and hath credibly heard and verily beleiveth that they the foresayd<br />
respective Owners did att Revell in May last lade all and singular the <br />
foresayd goods for their respective Accompts as aforesayd aboard the<br />
sayd shipp the 'Young Boer', and they have by letters signified to this<br />
deponent that they the sayd Claymers were and are the lawfull and <br />
selfe Owners of the sayd goods respectively mentioned as aforesayd. <br />

To the second third fourth and fifth articles of the sayd allegation This deponent<br />

the sayd shipp 'Young Boer' Jacob Cornelison Master all and singular the<br />
goods before severally mentioned for their owne Accompts respectively<br />

to be in the sayd shipp transported to Amsterdam and there to be delivered <br />

To the fifth article of the said allegation This deponent saith that the sayd shipp the<br />
'Golden Starr' being vpon the English Seas neere the English shoare and<br />
sayling Eastward as aforesayd was haled by the &#91;Master crossed through&#93; Captain of the 'Advantage'<br />
frigot in the imediat service of this Commonwealth and wearing the Colors<br />
of this Commonwealth. And the said Captaine of the 'Advantage' required the master<br />
and Company of the 'Golden Starr' in the name of the Parliament of England<br />
